Chestnut Class have been learning
about Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the introduction of the Penny Post and the
Great Exhibition. Through
these topics they have used ICT for research and a timeline on Victorian
inventions, read and written poetry, studied William Morris, made Morse
Code circuits, replicated the Rainbow Trials which were done to choose an
ink for stamps, and dressed up as Victorians for some photography.
They worked hard to understand how Brunel worked with forces to design his
bridges, trains and buildings, and together they built a rather large
suspension bridge! Science,
Art and Writing is a cross-discipline project which encourages children to
use scientific imagery as a basis for word creation leading to wonderful
writing; art in finding different ways to represent the image; and
science in studying what the image actually is. It works to break
down the traditional barriers between Science and the Arts. |
